Another Battlefield 3 Report

I could not controlled myself and needed to post another Battlefield 3 Report. During the last day of the Beta I encountered problems on all my matches. It was probably a coincidence but annoying nonetheless. I must add that I was playing the PS3 version of the game. What problems did I encountered? Here’s a small list:

  •  Players kept disappearing and appearing, killing me mercilessly.
  • After successfully defending point A for a while and almost winning, my entire team fell in a hole created by various granades. It was ridiculous and we lost the objective and were forced to go to the next area by committing suicide.
  • Crawling on the floor will make you break the terrain and force you to dig underground. Very strange!
  • Not able to put in the radio down after being “rezzed”.
  • Flickering red and black colors. I thought my TV was getting damaged. I have no money to afford another TV. So scary!
  • Getting stuck on some rocks becoming an easy target.

Those are some of the peculiar things that happened on the last day. Now, here are some bug fixes posted by the Battlefield 3 team. You can see the whole Battlefield 3 post on their site. The ones I selected did happened to me or I just found interesting.

Regarding additional Open Beta content and fixes/patches for consoles, including PlayStation 3 issues with chat and party systems
While we would like to patch the Open Beta, DICE is currently focusing its available resources on polishing the retail game.

This is good to know. Lots of dumb gamers out there just love assuming that “beta” is the final product. I know our hearts have been broken before but the term “BETA” should never be used to judge games. If the final product is not what you hoped for, then by all means start talking smack.

Will DICE have enough time to iron out everything by release?

Issues with terrain stability and “falling into the map” on Operation Métro
This has been fixed for the beta via a server side update.

Good to know! I am afraid this was patched for PC as I experienced this on the last day of Beta. 

Kill cam sometimes zooms out too far or outside the map
This has been fixed for the launch of the retail game.

Downed bodies appear to be dead, but are not

The DICE team has been looking into this issue – which is caused by a combination of incidents in a confined area – and are working hard to address the issue for the launch of the retail game.

Hopefully this gets resolved by launch. It is understandable how this can happen as there are lots of destructible structures that could messed up the engine. 

Why is the hit detection seemingly different from Battlefield: Bad Company 2?
The netcode is one of the many things that we are testing as part of the Open Beta and is not necessarily reflective of the final retail game. The DICE team appreciates and has heard the feedback you’ve provided and is further optimizing online play. 

This is key here. I read somewhere that the final version of Battlefield 3 will offer a different hit model and will be a complete different beast. Great news!


Battlefield 3 will soon hit the stores and I must say that I am excited. The Call of Duty vs Battlefield topic will never end. However, someone said: “Call of Duty makes you an Army; Battlefield makes you a Soldier”.
