Alice and Brooklyn’s Finest

Congrats to the winners of the Oscars contest. I didn’t do too bad myself, 7 out of 10 of my picks were right. Hopefully since it won some big awards The Hurt Locker will continue to get more attention, which it deserves.

I recently saw Alice in Wonderland and I was mildly entertained. Its been making a ton of money since the 3D prices are a bit higher, just like with Avatar, but I don’t really remember the 3D effects making much of a difference. The movie did look good, the special effects and CGI were all really impressive, but I don’t know if it really needs to be seen in any enhanced format.

The movie is a sort of follow-up/re-imagining of the original story and its sequel. It’s a bit odd/strange (like it’s supposed to be) and it was unique to say the least. Some of the characters were interesting and funny, though nothing really worth mentioning. If you haven’t seen it yet, and you aren’t really interested, save your money. It’s nothing too special.

I also caught Brooklyn’s Finest, the new cop flick from the same cat who made Training Day. Pretty much along the lines of most cop movies, the movie revolves around an undercover cop, a tempted cop, and an old veteran. I did like Don Cheadle and Ethan Hawke but I though at times Richard Gere was an odd choice for his character. I know the reviews for the movie haven’t been too good, and I’ll admit I thought it was a bit lacking in some areas, but overall I did like it. If you wanna see a decent cop movie this is a safe bet.
