Lobah: A Slave Girl In Age Of Conan

Let’s talk about a buggy, unresponsive, resource hogger, broken game at release and one of my favorites: Age of Conan. There are other games that have a place in my heart but Conan has the beauty to match it’s ruthlessness; no other game can beat AoC’s combat period. This is not a review or a preview, it is a small narrative of the adventures of Lobah, a vixen slave with the body of a goddess, fighting for her survival. Please keep in mind this post contains multiple images and during any time the narrative will stop to explain things about the game.
The ship crashed and a stranger named Kalanthes offered his help in the form of advice, but that does not matter, freedom finally arrived. The shore is beautiful with plenty of fruit and wild life around along with good for nothing pirates that have a camp inside the jungle.
The visuals are extraordinary, the world of Hyboria feels real and the game suffers from it too. AoC is plagued by zones and instances that are needed in order to keep this realism.
“Buy your life and freedom with his death” , Kalanthes words haunted Lobah and she knew it was true; the time to act was now. Fighting almost naked and with a piece of wood will be no easy task.
Now is the perfect time for an ambush: “Live in fear or die bravely!” – Lobah shouted as she ran towards the pirates that had other plans for her.
The victory was clear, the fools had no chance against Lobah, not even death could strike her down.
My favorite part, the combat in AoC is completely different from any game and is something I hope other devs can take note and add to future games. Please take a look at the UI from one of the above images, there are directional arrows that dictate the angle your “white” attacks or normal swings; this will determine from which side you attack. Most skills require a combination of the directional attacks in order to work. Casters have it easier but in my opinion that’s the best part of the game.
Along with the directional bonuses, every NPC and player in the game has 3 active shields that mitigate damage in real time. The shields can be moved and stacked together for maximum protection but leaves you vulnerable on the other sides. During PvP all players need to guard their backs as no shield can be moved there.
Could it be a trap? Another slave girl?
Casilda proved to be useful except for fights, all she did was scream, cheer and pray for my victory and her safety. My piece of wood broke many skulls but it was time to replace it for something sharper.
The fight against Sadur proved to be more difficult than expected. He, Sadur the Slaver, a mass of fat and filth was as agile as a puma. Just as he was about to stab Lobah and finish her off for good, she pressed her fingers in one of his freshly wounds and threw him off balance. She hit Sadur with her weapon in the face so hard that one of his eyes popped out; in the frenzy Lobah ripped the eye out while he screamed in agony and watched how his life was about to end. During this time Casilda watched from afar trying to not look so terrified and scared of Lobah.
After such a fight, rest was needed and deserved. Casilda was overwhelmed when Tortage was reached, she thanked Lobah he only way she knew: a flirty thank you and a look that hinted sexual favors upon request. Lobah was busy looking at Tortage’s main gate to pay attention to Casilda’s propositions, the inevitable happened: the guard noticed her prisioner’s shackles. What will happen to Lobah?
The current performance of AoC is top notch, there are no more random crashes (at least while I played) and like any other MMO it has it’s problems. Combat might not be for everyone, the game has lots of instances, and pvp can be a gankfest. Even with so many problems, I want to stay. Things like voice acting, the armor, and the graphics gives the game a realism that I enjoy a lot, even if it means playing alone because none of my friends want to join a “empty dead game”.
If any readers out there liked this and want to know more about Lobah’s future just let me know by throwing a retweet or leaving a comment.
I posted this before but might as well put it back because the movie is worth it.
